Program Note:
Catharsisis the final panel of my Triptych II, coming after Antithesis and Not buried, but just under the surface. Catharsis and Antithesis are both defined by the opposition (but not necessarily conflict) within the qualities of the musical materials and the trajectories they take (accumulative vs dispersive). ‘Catharsis’ is purgation through significant effort.
This piece was composed for bassist Nate Beaver. It is linked not only Antithesis, but also my ensemble work, Triskelion, and its siblings.
